No advance reservation or ticket purchase is required to view Noijinkangsang Mountain, as its main attraction—Kharola Glacier—is located directly beside National Highway G349, where visitors can park at roadside viewing platforms for free access. Due to the high altitude of approximately 5,300 meters at the viewing area, altitude sickness is highly likely. Ensure you prepare ample oxygen bottles and altitude sickness medication in advance, wear professional cold- and wind-resistant clothing, and avoid strenuous activity. Temperatures in the glacier area are extremely low, and UV radiation is intense; maintain warmth for the head, hands, and feet throughout, and apply facial sunscreen. Strictly follow all safety warnings—do not climb the glacier or enter dangerous areas such as crevasses to prevent ice collapses and falls. Protect the fragile glacier ecosystem by strictly prohibiting littering. Roads may be snowy and icy in winter; if self-driving, equip snow chains and proceed with caution.
Noijinkangsang Mountain (elevation 7,191 meters) is located at the border between Langkazi County of Shannan City and Gyangzê County of Shigatse City in Tibet. It is one of the four sacred mountains in central Tibet and serves as the eastern source of the Nianchu River. The Kharola Glacier, developed on its southern slope, is one of Tibet's three major continental-type glaciers, with its ice tongue extending to the side of National Highway G349 (formerly Provincial Highway S307), merely hundreds of meters from the road. This creates the unique spectacle of a "glacier viewable up close by the roadside," renowned as the lowest-elevation and most accessible hanging glacier in the world. Having appeared in films like Red River Valley, where filming caused an artificial ice-collapse scar, it embodies dual value as both a natural wonder and a site of cultural imprint. Presently, it can be viewed free of charge from the national highway.
