No advance reservation is required to visit Gyirong Valley, but due to its border location, it is essential to obtain a "Border Area Travel Permit" in advance at your place of household registration or in Lhasa or Shigatse with your ID card. The valley features a dramatic altitude range (1,800–4,300 meters), so prepare clothing suitable for different elevations and altitude sickness medication. The road conditions throughout are complex; driving a 4WD vehicle is recommended, and beware of falling rocks. Respect local customs and religious taboos; do not photograph border inspection facilities or military personnel without permission. Gyirong Port is a national first-class port; crossing the border privately is prohibited. Protect the ecological environment by not picking rare plants or disturbing wildlife. The best time to visit is from May to October; check weather and road conditions before traveling.

Gyirong Valley is situated in the southern part of Gyirong County, Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region. It is the deepest gorge among the five major valleys in the Himalayas, stretching approximately ninety kilometers in length. Elevation ranges from over four thousand meters down to about eighteen hundred meters, creating a vertical ecological marvel described as "four seasons in one mountain." Known as "Tibet's Last Hidden Gem" and the "Back Garden of Mount Everest," it combines snow-capped peaks, dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and traditional villages, featuring both the ruggedness of Jipu Grand Canyon and the tranquil highland pastoral scenery of Nai Village. Since the Tang Dynasty, it has served as the "Ancient Tibet-Nepal Route" linking Central China to South Asia, preserving historical inscriptions like "Datang Tianzhu Shichu Ming" left by the Tang envoy Wang Xuance. Blending natural wonder and human history, the site currently charges no admission fee and is ideal for independent exploration by car.
