Hetan Er Street is a century-old food street in Shayibake District, Urumqi, stretching about 800 meters and famed for its vibrant atmosphere, often described as "the aroma of a pot of pilaf filling half the city." Originating in 1915 as a resting point for Hotan merchants on the Silk Road, it now brings together over a hundred authentic Xinjiang snacks, such as baked buns, fig pilaf, and handcrafted ice cream. Among them, the "Kashgar Handful" baked buns, with their crispy skin, savory filling, and price of three yuan each, have become a popular must-try. After its renovation in 2023, the street incorporated ethnic elements like Atlas silk-patterned street lamps and Twelve Muqam musical score floor tiles, along with theme post offices and cultural creative stalls, creating an immersive "food + culture + tourism" experience space, acclaimed as "Urumqi's Museum on the Tip of the Tongue."
