盤龍古道

前往盤龍古道（又名瓦恰公路）自駕，需提前在戶籍地或喀什市辦理前往塔什庫爾干縣的《邊境管理區通行證》（邊防證）。該公路為免費開放的景觀公路，無需預約門票，但每年11月至次年4月通常會因大雪封山而封閉，最佳遊覽期為5月至10月。全線海拔超過4000米，務必做好高原反應預防，避免劇烈運動，並備好保暖衣物、墨鏡和防曬霜。全程為雙向兩車道柏油路，但以“36公里608道彎”著稱，坡陡彎急，請務必由經驗豐富的司機駕駛車況良好的車輛，全程謹慎慢行，嚴禁在彎道、坡頂等危險路段停車。目前全線設有6個觀景台，​請務必在觀景台內安全停車、拍照，切勿在公路任何非停車區域逗留。請將垃圾帶離，保護高原生態環境。建議將盤龍古道與塔縣（石頭城、金草灘等）及喀拉庫勒湖、慕士塔格峰等帕米爾高原景點串聯，規劃2-3日行程。

For a self-drive trip on the Panlong Ancient Road (also known as the Waqia Highway), you must obtain a Border Area Entry Permit (Border Permit) for travel to Taxkorgan County in advance, either at your place of household registration or in Kashgar City. The road is a freely accessible scenic route that does not require ticket reservations. However, it is typically closed from November to April each year due to heavy snowfall, with the best visiting period being from May to October. The entire route is at an altitude exceeding 4,000 meters, so it is essential to take precautions against altitude sickness, avoid strenuous activity, and prepare warm clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen. The entire road is a two-lane asphalt highway, but it is famous for its "608 curves over 36 kilometers," with steep slopes and sharp turns. It must be driven by an experienced driver in a well-maintained vehicle. Proceed with caution at all times, and parking is strictly prohibited in dangerous sections such as curves and hilltops. Currently, there are 6 viewing platforms along the route. ​Please ensure you park safely and take photos only within these designated viewing platforms, and do not linger in any non-parking areas along the road.​​ Take all trash with you to protect the plateau's ecological environment. It is recommended to combine the Panlong Ancient Road with attractions in Taxkorgan County (such as Stone City and Golden Grass Beach) and other Pamir Plateau sites like Karakul Lake and Muztagh Peak, planning a 2-3 day itinerary.

The Panlong Ancient Road (also known as the Waqia Highway) is situated in Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County on the Pamir Plateau of Xinjiang. It is a cliffside highway traversing the Kunlun Mountains, connecting Waqia Township and Bandier Township. Its most awe-inspiring feature lies in the fact that over a distance of just ​36 kilometers, the road ascends dramatically from an altitude of ​approximately 3,000 meters​ to a ridgeline ​exceeding 4,200 meters, folding into a ​staggering 608 consecutive S-curves. It resembles a colossal black dragon coiling around the grey-yellow mountains, earning titles such as "China's Road with the Densest Curves" and a "Sky Road Marvel of the Pamir Plateau." Renowned not only for its extreme and precipitous engineering aesthetics, the road has gained profound philosophical meaning from a sign at its starting point that reads: "Having navigated all the winding roads of life today, the path ahead will be smooth and straight." This has transformed it into a pilgrimage route for countless self-driving and photography enthusiasts. Multiple viewing platforms along the way offer panoramic vistas of the serpentine road intertwined with the vast plateau landscape. A border permit is required for visitation, with the best season being from May to October, as the road is often closed due to heavy snow in winter.
