The Kashgar Grand Bazaar (officially known as the Central and West Asia International Trade Market) is situated on the eastern bank of the Tuman River in the northeastern part of Kashgar City, Xinjiang. Also called the East Gate Bazaar, it is the largest international trade market in Northwest China and was designated as a National AAA-level Tourist Attraction in 2015. With a history dating back to the ancient Shule Kingdom during the Han Dynasty, it was documented by Zhang Qian during his diplomatic missions to the Western Regions and has been renowned as the "Largest Market in Asia". Covering an area of 250 acres, the bazaar features 21 specialized sections offering over 9,000 types of goods, including silk, carpets, gold, dried fruits, and handicrafts. It attracts more than 100,000 daily visitors, with Sundays being particularly bustling. Blending the trade traditions of the ancient Silk Road with Uyghur folk culture, visitors can experience traditional craftsmanship, enjoy folk music and dance performances, and savor local delicacies such as kebabs and pilaf.
