Located in Huicheng Township, Hami City, Xinjiang, the Hami Huiwangfu (Hami King’s Palace) was initially constructed during the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty and stands as the largest and best-preserved complex of royal palace gardens of the Hui kings in Xinjiang. The architecture of the palace seamlessly blends Han-style palace construction with Islamic decorative arts. Its main structures feature Han-style elements such as glazed tile roofs, intricately carved beams, and painted rafters, while also incorporating Islamic-style arches, geometric patterns, and green domes, earning it the title “Little Forbidden City of the Western Regions.” It once served as the ruling center for nine generations of Hui kings in Hami during the Qing Dynasty, witnessing over two centuries of political, economic, and cultural development in the Hami region. The existing architectural complex has been restored and reconstructed on its original site, housing exhibition areas such as the Hui King History Gallery and a recreated scene of Qing Dynasty military farming, vividly portraying the historical tapestry of multi-ethnic exchange and integration in Xinjiang during the Qing era.
