Before visiting the Ebinur Lake area, it is essential to understand and strictly adhere to the following regulations and precautions. Regarding reservations, Ebinur Lake is a National Nature Reserve. Its core and buffer zones are under strict closed management and are not regularly open to the public. There is no need nor possibility to book entry or purchase tickets through常规 tourist channels. Any team or individual planning to enter the reserve for activities such as scientific research, photography, or surveys must apply in advance to the competent authorities, such as the Xinjiang Ebinur Lake Wetland National Nature Reserve Administration, and obtain special permission according to the law. Entry without approval is strictly prohibited. For general tourists, it is strictly forbidden to drive or hike into the reserve area without authorization. Regarding visit precautions, please pay special attention to the following: First, regulations and areas. The only legal and safe way for the public to experience Ebinur Lake is to observe and photograph it from a distance at designated viewing platforms or rest areas along public roads that pass nearby (such as the G30 Lianhuo Expressway or the Jing-A Expressway), while ensuring traffic safety. Do not leave the road or viewing platforms to enter戈壁, wetland, or other areas. Second, ecology and protection. The reserve is home to 267 species of birds and numerous other wild animals. Please remain quiet; it is strictly forbidden to scare, feed, or chase wildlife, or to harvest brine shrimp or collect bird eggs. Do not pick any plants. Third, safety and protection. The area is located in a desert region with a dry climate, significant wind and sand, intense sunlight, and large day-night temperature variations. Be sure to take sun protection measures (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), prepare for wind and sand, and carry an ample supply of drinking water. Winters are cold, so prepare for the cold. Fourth, environmental protection and fire prevention. Please take all trash with you, practicing "leave no trace" tourism. Smoking and all open fires are strictly prohibited within and around the reserve area. Fifth, communication and emergencies. Mobile phone signals are weak in some areas; it is recommended to travel with companions. In case of an emergency, call for help. Always remember that protecting this precious wetland ecosystem is everyone's responsibility, and your civilized behavior is the best respect for nature.
Ebinur Lake is located in the northern part of Jinghe County, Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Situated at the northern foot of the Tianshan Mountains and the southwestern edge of the Junggar Basin, with an elevation of only 189 meters, it is the largest saltwater lake in Xinjiang and the lowest point of the Junggar Basin. The lake surface once shrank significantly due to climatic and human factors, but through recent ecological water replenishment and other治理 measures, its current water area is approximately 600 square kilometers. As a National Wetland Nature Reserve, Ebinur Lake is an important bird migration corridor and habitat in the Eurasian inland. It has recorded 267 bird species, with a total observed population exceeding 2 million, including various rare birds such as swans, cranes, and storks. The area around the lake features extensive halophytic meadows, saxaul forests, and other desert vegetation, forming a unique "wetland-desert" transitional zone ecosystem. Furthermore, Ebinur Lake is rich in salt resources, particularly renowned for its brine shrimp (Artemia) egg resources. It is not only a key water body for maintaining the ecological balance of northern Xinjiang but also an important base for researching lake evolution and biodiversity in arid regions. Its ecological restoration process is considered a model for lake conservation in China's arid zones.
