If you plan to experience special activities such as desert off-roading, camel riding, sandboarding, stargazing camping, or stay in hotels or unique accommodations near the desert, it is strongly recommended that you consult and make reservations at least 1 to 3 days in advance through the scenic area's official channels or reliable travel agencies, especially during holidays and peak tourist seasons (such as May Day, National Day, and summer vacation), to secure availability and plan your itinerary reasonably. Regarding important precautions for your visit, please pay special attention to the following: First, timing and climate. The desert region experiences extreme temperature differences between day and night, intense UV radiation, and an extremely dry climate. Adequate preparation is essential: during the day, wear sun-protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses, apply high-SPF sunscreen, and carry sufficient drinking water (recommended at least 2-3 liters per person per day) to prevent heatstroke and dehydration; at night, prepare warm clothing (such as down jackets or fleece). Stay updated on weather forecasts and avoid entering the desert during extreme weather like sandstorms. Second, safety and protection. When participating in high-risk activities such as desert off-roading, always choose operators officially run by the scenic area or those with proper qualifications. Strictly follow the instructions of professional coaches or guides, and wear safety gear such as seat belts and helmets. Do not venture into undeveloped, unmarked desert areas on your own, as it is very easy to get lost and encounter danger. Third, gear and supplies. 庫木塔格沙漠位於新疆吐魯番市鄯善縣城南端，與城市僅一路之隔，是世界上少有的與城市零距離接觸的沙漠，被譽為「城中的沙漠」。沙漠面積遼闊，以獨特的沙山地貌和「羽毛狀沙丘」聞名，沙丘輪廓層次分明，丘脊線流暢如波浪。這裡因風向交匯點千百年穩定，形成「沙不進、綠不退」的自然奇觀，沙漠與鄯善綠洲形成黃綠分明的視覺對比。作為國家重點風景名勝區和國家AAAA級旅遊景區，庫木塔格沙漠集沙漠觀光、越野探險、沙療康養於一體，遊客可體驗沙漠衝浪、騎駱駝、滑沙等項目，還可欣賞唐代絲綢之路遺跡「大海道」的歷史風貌。夏季沙表溫度最高可達八十攝氏度以上，但夜晚涼爽宜人，是感受「大漠孤煙直，長河落日圓」壯景的理想之地。

The Kumtag Desert is located at the southern edge of Shanshan County, Turpan City, Xinjiang, just a road away from the urban area, making it one of the rare deserts in the world that is in close proximity to a city, earning it the title of "the desert within the city". Covering a vast area, it is renowned for its unique sand mountain landforms and "feather-shaped sand dunes", with distinct sand ridge lines that flow like waves. Due to stable wind convergence points over millennia, it has formed the natural wonder of "sand not advancing, green not retreating," creating a striking visual contrast between the desert and the Shanshan oasis. As a National Key Scenic Area and a National AAAA Tourist Attraction, the Kumtag Desert offers integrated experiences of desert sightseeing, off-road adventure, and sand therapy wellness. Visitors can enjoy activities such as desert surfing, camel riding, and sand sliding, while also exploring historical sites like the Tang Dynasty Silk Road relic "Sea Route". Although surface temperatures can reach over eighty degrees Celsius in summer, the nights are cool and pleasant, making it an ideal destination to witness the majestic scenery described as "a lone smoke rising in the vast desert, the setting sun hanging over the long river".
