Lhalu Wetland implements a free reservation system. Visitors must make a real-name reservation in advance through the official WeChat account "Lhalu Wetland". The wetland is open from 9:00-18:00 during the peak season (May-October) and 10:00-17:00 during the off-season (November-April), with closure every Monday for maintenance. Strictly follow conservation rules: stay on the wooden boardwalks, do not enter restricted areas; prohibit picking plants, disturbing birds, or flying drones. Due to the high altitude, sun protection and drinking water are essential. As the ecosystem is fragile, do not litter and help protect the "Lung of Lhasa".
The Lhalu Wetland National Nature Reserve, located in the northwestern part of Lhasa, is the highest-altitude and largest urban natural wetland in the world, renowned as the "Lung of Lhasa". This typical Tibetan Plateau wetland consists of reed peat marshes and supports diverse plateau-specific flora and fauna. It provides a habitat for various bird species, such as black-necked cranes and ruddy shelducks, as well as rare fish like schizothorax, with vegetation dominated by reeds and sedges, forming a unique alpine ecosystem. As a "natural oxygen bar," the wetland plays a vital role in regulating the climate and conserving water sources. Visitors can stroll along wooden boardwalks to observe migratory birds, reed marshes, and reflections of the Potala Palace, enjoying a rare natural tranquility within the city. The wetland is open to the public free of charge, offering a unique destination for experiencing plateau ecology and leisure tourism.
