Please note that visiting specific sites like the No. 3 Mine Vein or the Ayiguzi Mine Cave may require separate tickets or operate on a split-ticket system from the main scenic area. Please carefully check the coverage of your purchased ticket type during booking. During peak tourist seasons and holidays like the National Day "Golden Week" and summer vacation, visitor numbers are high. It is strongly recommended to complete your booking at least 1-3 days in advance. If you plan to stay in Koktokay Town or near the scenic area, especially during peak season, be sure to book your hotel or guesthouse accommodation well in advance. Regarding important notices for your visit, please pay attention to the following: Firstly, transportation and entry. Upon arrival, private vehicles usually need to be parked in designated parking lots. Visitors must transfer to the scenic area's shuttle buses to enter the core tour areas. You must carry the original, valid photo ID (such as a second-generation ID card, passport, etc.) used for booking with you for verification at the gates and facial recognition entry. Secondly, climate and clothing. Koktokay is located deep in the Altai Mountains, with extremely large temperature variations between day and night and changeable weather. Even in summer, it is necessary to bring warm clothing such as windproof jackets and fleece, and be prepared for wind and sun protection. Winter temperatures are extremely low, requiring a full set of cold-weather gear. Thirdly, safety and regulations. Parts of the scenic area feature canyon, river, and mine cave terrain. Please pay close attention to safety during your visit. Always stay within the designated trails, viewing platforms, and boardwalks. Do not climb in unopened areas, enter the water, or approach cliff edges. When visiting special sites like mine caves, strictly follow staff instructions and wear the provided safety equipment. The Koktokay (also known as Keketuohai) Scenic Area is situated in the northeast of Fuyun County, Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. Nestled at the southern foothills of the Altai Mountains and on the upper reaches of the Irtysh River, with a planned area of approximately 788 square kilometers, it is a National 5A Tourist Attraction and a UNESCO Global Geopark. It integrates world-class geological wonders, rare metal mineral deposits, magnificent canyon rivers, pristine forests and meadows, and Kazakh nomadic culture. Its name, "Koktokay," means "blue river bend" in Mongolian and "green jungle" in Kazakh, perfectly capturing its natural essence. The area is geologically and historically centered around the world-renowned "No. 3 Mine Vein." This open-pit mine, over 200 meters deep and resembling a giant vortex, provided indispensable rare metal resources for the nascent People's Republic of China to repay massive foreign debts and for the "Two Bombs, One Satellite" project. It is hailed as the "Meritorious Mine" and a "Natural Geological Museum," embodying profound historical and patriotic significance. The natural landscape is dominated by the Irtysh Grand Canyon, featuring spectacular and majestic granite peaks. The "Shenzhong Mountain" (Divine Bell Mountain) stands out particularly, resembling a giant upturned bell. The clear, winding Irtysh River (the only river in China that flows into the Arctic Ocean) meanders through the canyon, alongside birch forests, spruce trees, and meadows, creating richly layered vistas for all four seasons: blooming mountain flowers in spring, a cool summer retreat, golden-hued forests in autumn, and a snow-clad wonderland in winter. The scenic area also includes the shimmering Koktokay Lake (Wild Duck Lake) and Yilemu Lake. The region is an important settlement for the Kazakh ethnic group, where visitors can experience authentic pastoral life, savor traditional cuisine, and enjoy performances of Aken singing. In recent years, leveraging its premium powder snow and unique terrain, the adjacent Koktokay International Ski Resort has become a top-tier skiing destination. Visitors must use shuttle buses within the area, and an itinerary of at least 2-3 days is recommended to fully appreciate its geological marvels, historical weight, ecological beauty, and cultural charm.
