When visiting the Mati Temple scenic area, visitors need to book tickets in advance with real-name registration through online platforms or the official scenic area channels. Access to the core grotto, Jinta Temple (Golden Pagoda Temple), is limited to 80 persons per day and requires a separate prior reservation (typically confirmed by contacting the scenic area 1-3 days in advance). Opening hours are 08:00-18:00 during the peak season (May-October) and 09:00-17:30 during the off-season (November-April). Important notes for the visit: Mountain areas experience significant temperature differences between day and night, so please prepare windproof and warm clothing along with anti-slip hiking shoes. Passages in grottoes like the "Thirty-Three Heavens" are steep and narrow, involving climbs up vertical ladders; elderly visitors, young children, and those with acrophobia should carefully assess their capability. Photography and touching murals or sculptures inside the grottoes are strictly prohibited. Respect local Tibetan and Yugur customs; do not take photos of monks, religious ceremonies, or residents without permission. Some roads within the scenic area are unpaved; it is recommended to use an off-road vehicle for self-driving visits. Certain grottoes may be temporarily closed due to rain or snow.

Mati Temple (full name: Mati Temple Grottoes Complex) is located on the northern foothills of the Qilian Mountains in Mati Tibetan Township, Sunan Yugur Autonomous County, Zhangye City, Gansu Province. It is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and AAAA-level Tourist Attraction that integrates grotto art, Qilian Mountain scenery, and Yugur and Tibetan ethnic cultures. Its core attraction is the "Thirty-Three Heavens" Grottoes, initially constructed during the Northern Liang period. These caves are arranged vertically in a pagoda-like formation across a hundred-meter-high red sandstone cliff, comprising seven tiers with twenty-one caves. They blend Han Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist art and are hailed as one of the "Three Great Buddhist Art Treasures of the Hexi Corridor". The Jinta Temple Grottoes within the scenic area preserve rare high-relief painted flying apsaras from the Northern Wei Dynasty, which hold exceptional artistic value. Mati Temple is skillfully integrated with the natural landscapes of the Qilian Mountains, including grasslands, snow-capped peaks, and forests. While exploring the millennia-old grottoes, visitors can also experience the authentic customs of Tibetan and Yugur ethnic groups, forming a unique cultural and natural wonder described by the phrase "verdant mountains, clear waters, spectacular peaks, and extraordinary caves".
