The Tiantishan Grottoes operates a real-name ticket purchase system, requiring visitors to present valid personal identification to buy tickets at the scenic area ticket office. To control visitor numbers and protect the grotto relics, the site implements time-slot visitor restrictions. It is advisable to avoid peak holiday periods. In cases of exceptionally high visitor flow, ticket sales may be temporarily suspended. Opening hours are 8:30-18:00 during the peak season (May 1-October 31) and 9:00-17:30 during the off-season (November 1-April 30), with ticket sales stopping 30 minutes before closing. Throughout the visit, all cultural relics protection regulations must be strictly followed: touching murals, sculptures, or other relics is strictly prohibited, as is photography, videography, and the use of flash inside the caves. Some areas of the scenic site feature steep mountain paths; please wear non-slip, comfortable shoes and pay attention to walking safety. Due to conservation needs, the interior of the caves may be opened on a rotating basis or subject to temporary adjustments. Specific opening arrangements are subject to the day's announcements.

The Tiantishan Grottoes are located in Dengshan Village, Zhangyi Town, Liangzhou District, Wuwei City, Gansu Province. Initially constructed during the Northern Liang period (approximately 412-439 AD) of the Eastern Jin and Sixteen Kingdoms era, they boast a history of over 1,600 years and represent China's first grottoes commissioned by a ruling monarch (King Juqu Mengxun of Northern Liang). Renowned as the "Origin of Chinese Grottoes", they established the "Liangzhou Model," which directly influenced the artistic styles of the Yungang and Longmen Grottoes. The core attraction is the Tang Dynasty Great Buddha Cave (Cave 13), which houses a 28-meter-high seated statue of Sakyamuni. Set against mountains and the Huangyanghe Reservoir, it creates a unique landscape integrating "mountains, water, Buddha, and clouds". The site comprises three tiers of 18 surviving caves, preserving numerous murals, sculptures, and Chinese-Tibetan scriptures from the Northern Liang to Ming and Qing periods. It holds significant value for grotto art, Buddhist history, and natural scenery, and is currently designated as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a National AAAA Tourist Attraction.
