The opening hours are 8:00-20:00 in summer and 8:30-18:00 in winter (ticket sales stop 1 hour before closing). Allocate at least 2-3 hours for the visit. Wear non-slip flat shoes as the site involves walking on city walls and around ancient structures; avoid running on slopes and steps. Located in the Gobi desert, the area has strong sun and frequent sandstorms, so sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and drinking water are essential. Follow all cultural relic protection rules: do not touch, carve, or climb on the walls, and stay out of restricted areas. Official guided tours and audio guides are available at the entrance. 嘉峪關關城被譽為“天下第一雄關”，是明代萬里長城西端的起點，始建於明洪武五年，距今已有超過六百五十年的歷史。它坐落於甘肅省嘉峪關市西南約六公里處的嘉峪山麓，地處河西走廊最狹窄的山谷中部，南倚祁連山雪峰，北望黑山，扼守絲路咽喉，素有“河西鎖鑰”之稱。關城由內城、外城、羅城、甕城、城壕及南北兩翼長城組成，形成三重城郭、多道防線的嚴密軍事防禦體系，內城周長六百餘米，高約十米，以黃土夯築而成，東西兩側分別建有“光化門”與“柔遠門”，門上高聳的三層木結構城樓氣勢恢宏。城內保留有遊擊將軍府、井亭、文昌閣等建築，關帝廟、戲台等附屬設施則展現了其兼具軍事、貿易與文化交融的多元功能。作為現存長城關隘中規模最宏大、保存最完整的古代軍事堡壘，嘉峪關被列為全國重點文物保護單位，入選世界文化遺產，並被評為國家最高級別的旅遊景區。登臨關城，戈壁蒼茫與雪山輝映的壯闊景色，至今仍令人遙想當年商旅絡繹、金戈鐵馬的邊塞傳奇。

Jiayuguan Fortress, renowned as the "First Pass Under Heaven," is the western starting point of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. Originally constructed during the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty, it boasts a history of over six hundred and fifty years. Situated approximately six kilometers southwest of Jiayuguan City in Gansu Province, at the narrowest point of the Hexi Corridor, the fortress lies at the foot of the Jiayu Mountains, with the Qilian Mountains' snow-capped peaks to the south and the Hei Mountains to the north. It strategically commanded the vital passage along the Silk Road, earning it the nickname "Key to the Hexi Corridor." The complex comprises an inner city, outer walls, a forward defense wall, barbican enclosures, a defensive moat, and extended sections of the Great Wall to the north and south, forming a sophisticated multi-layered military defense system. The inner city, with a circumference of over six hundred meters and walls about ten meters high, was built with rammed earth. It features the towering three-story wooden towers "Guanghua Gate" to the east and "Rouyuan Gate" to the west. Structures within include the Assistant Commander's Residence, a well pavilion, and the Wenchang Pavilion, while ancillary facilities like the Temple of Guan Yu and a theater stage reflect its multifunctional role encompassing military, trade, and cultural exchange. As the largest and best-preserved pass fortress along the Great Wall, Jiayuguan was designated as a Major National Historical and Cultural Site, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and rated as a National Top-level Tourist Attraction. Standing atop the fortress, visitors can behold the majestic landscape where the vast Gobi meets the majestic snow-capped mountains, evoking images of the bustling caravans and frontier battles that once defined this historic pass.
