The Yellow River Stone Forest is located in Longwan Village, Zhongquan Township, Jingtai County, Baiyin City, Gansu Province. It is an ancient river channel conglomerate峰林 landform formed during the Quaternary period, approximately 2.1 to 4 million years ago. The scenic area covers a total area of about 50 square kilometers, with a core zone of roughly 10 square kilometers. Dominated by orange-yellow conglomerate pillars, the tallest exceeding 200 meters, it resembles the imposing array of an ancient Roman legion from a distance. The stone forest developed within the deeply incised meandering valley along the Yellow River, integrating majestic stone forest peaks, the rushing winding waters of the Yellow River, tranquil riverside oases, and the古朴 Longwan village into a rare three-dimensional landscape described as "peaks reflected in water, mountains and rivers coexisting." Visitors can ride donkey carts through the canyons, drift on the Yellow River aboard sheepskin rafts, or ascend to overlook the "S"-shaped great bend formed by the river here. As a National Geopark and a 4A-level scenic area, the Yellow River Stone Forest is not only a living fossil for interpreting the geological evolution of the Loess Plateau in northwest China but also, with its rugged and untamed natural aesthetics, an irreplicable and extraordinary landmark on the Silk Road journey.
