Lake Keluke is located in the Huaitoutala Grassland, about forty to fifty kilometers southwest of Delingha City in the Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province, and is a sparkling gem in the eastern part of the Qaidam Basin. As a slightly saline freshwater lake, it connects with the adjacent Toson Lake, a typical inland saltwater lake, forming a rare "one fresh, one saline" twin-lake system. Together, they constitute the Keluke-Toson Lake Nature Reserve, listed as an important terrestrial wildlife habitat. The name "Keluke" comes from Mongolian, meaning "a place lush with water and grass". The lake covers an area of approximately fifty-seven square kilometers, boasting clear waters and abundant reed beds. Every early spring, rare birds such as the Black-necked Crane, Bar-headed Goose, and Great Black-headed Gull inhabit and breed here. The lakeshore is equipped with facilities like docks and pleasure boats, allowing visitors to enjoy water activities and taste the lake's abundant Qaidam carp and Chinese mitten crabs. This beautiful water area nestled between the Gobi and the grassland demonstrates the tranquility and vitality of a plateau wetland through its unique ecological contrast and rich biodiversity.
