Da Qaidam Emerald Lake is a National AAAA-level tourist attraction. Tickets (including the sightseeing train ticket) must be purchased on-site with real-name registration. It is recommended to confirm the ticketing policy and the park's operational status in advance through official channels. During your visit, please note: the lake area consists of countless salt pools of varying sizes, with fragile salt crust edges and unknown underwater conditions—walk only along designated boardwalks and safe areas, and do not step into the salt pools or play near the water's edge to avoid sinking or injury; the local UV radiation is extremely strong and the climate is dry, so high-intensity sun protection is essential (recommended: SPF 50+ sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sunhat) and carry sufficient drinking water to prevent dehydration; the colors of the salt pools are highly affected by lighting, with the best shooting times being clear, windless mornings or evenings; if using a drone for aerial photography, comply with park regulations and avoid crowds; finally, please take all trash out of the scenic area to help protect this fragile salt lake paradise.
Da Qaidam Emerald Lake is located in the Da Qaidam Administrative Zone of Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. Originally a salt lake mining area for the Da Qaidam Chemical Plant, years of excavation have formed numerous salt pools of varying sizes and depths. Rich in minerals such as magnesium sulfate, potassium, and lithium, the lake water displays a vibrant palette of colors—including emerald green, lake blue, and amber yellow—under sunlight, resembling pieces of jade scattered across the Gobi Desert, hence the name "Emerald Lake". The water is so clear that the white, crystalline salt layers at the bottom are visible. On calm days, the lake surface acts like a mirror, perfectly reflecting the distant snow-capped mountains and blue sky, earning it the title "Plateau Sky Mirror". Now developed into a national-level tourist attraction, the site blends the rugged sense of industrial heritage with the dreamlike beauty of a natural wonder, making it a breathtaking landmark on the Qinghai-Gansu travel loop.
