Mangya Eiken Spring (Aiken Spring) is a National AAA-level scenic area. Tickets must be purchased with real-name registration at the entrance, and online reservations are currently unavailable. During your visit, please note the following: the site is located on a high-altitude desert, so prepare windproof, sandproof, sunscreen, and warm clothing; the spring water contains sulfur and other minerals, and the surrounding ground structure is unstable—do not cross fences or step onto discolored geological areas to avoid collapse or scalding; the full view of the core landscape, the “Devil's Eye,” requires a drone for aerial observation—if flying a drone, strictly comply with the scenic area's regulations, avoid crowds, and be cautious of strong wind interference; no dining services are available within the area, so bring sufficient drinking water and simple meals; finally, please take all trash with you to help protect the fragile plateau ecosystem.
The Mangya Eiken Spring (also known as Aiken Spring) is located deep within the Ala'er Grassland, west of Moheerbuluke Village in Huatugou Town, Mangya City, Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It is a rare geothermal fountain on the plateau, renowned for its unique shape and colors, earning it names like the "Devil's Eye" or "Eye of the Earth." The spring mouth, about ten meters in diameter, continuously gushes hot water rich in minerals such as sulfur and iron salts year-round. Wherever the water flows, long-term deposition and oxidation have created reddish-brown and golden-yellow ring-like patterns encircling the spring, resembling a giant eye staring at the sky when viewed from above—a surreal and visually stunning spectacle. The surrounding landscape features desolate salt marshes and grasslands, contrasting sharply with the fantastical image of the spring. Beyond being a geological wonder with scientific research value, the Eiken Spring is now designated as a National AAA-level tourist attraction. However, due to its remote location and rough terrain, access typically requires off-road vehicles, and the optimal viewing method is aerial photography via drone.
