Guide Ancient City is located in Heyin Town, Guide County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, just a few hundred meters north of the Yellow River. It is one of the best-preserved Ming Dynasty ancient cities in Qinghai and even the northwestern region. Constructed during the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty, the city wall spans over two thousand meters in a square layout, with surviving rammed earth walls, northern and southern barbicans, and multiple watchtowers, reflecting typical ancient military defense systems. The core structure, Yuhuang Pavilion, standing approximately twenty-five meters tall, was built during the Wanli era. Together with the Confucian Temple, Martial Temple, and City God Temple, it forms a Ming-Qing architectural complex integrating Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, later incorporated into the Great Wall protection system. Situated at the intersection of the Silk Road and the Tangbo Ancient Road, the city historically served as a military stronghold and trade hub in the Hehuang region. Today, it is renowned for its plateau Jiangnan scenery epitomized by the phrase "The Yellow River runs clear in Guide," and its cultural diversity. It is designated as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and featured in Yellow River cultural tourism routes.
