Weather conditions are extremely harsh, with frequent strong winds, snowstorms, and thin oxygen levels. It is mandatory to bring professional windproof and cold-weather gear, trekking poles, high-energy food, oxygen canisters, and to avoid lingering at the pass. Respect religious customs by not touching prayer flags or mani stones, and ensure all trash is taken away to protect the environment. It is recommended to visit only when in good physical condition and preferably with a guide or experienced companions.

Yet, from the pass, pilgrims can look back upon the jade-like Tso Kapala (Compassion Lake), where legend holds that circling the lake three times can cleanse one's sins.
