Bangong Lake is a free-to-visit AAA-class scenic area open 24/7 with no reservation required. Located in the northwest of Rutog County, Ngari Prefecture, Tibet, near a sensitive border region, visitors must obtain a border pass before travelling. As the altitude is around 4,240 meters, precautions against altitude sickness are necessary. The best time for sightseeing is from May to September, when bird breeding activities peak. During your visit, please take officially operated boats only and do not enter the water to swim. Remain quiet, avoid feeding or disturbing the birds, and take all rubbish away with you. Some lakeside roads are unpaved, so a vehicle with higher ground clearance is recommended. Mobile signal can be weak in parts of the area; downloading offline maps in advance is advised.

Bangong Lake is situated in the northwestern part of Rutog County, Ngari Prefecture, Tibet, and is a transboundary plateau lake straddling China and Indian-administered Kashmir. Extending approximately 160 kilometers in length with a narrowest point of only 5 meters, it exhibits the rare characteristic of "fresh in the east, salty in the west"—the eastern section within China contains freshwater, while the western part is saline. The lake hosts the world's highest-altitude bird island, attracting tens of thousands of migratory birds, such as bar-headed geese and brown-headed gulls, to breed from May to September each year, creating a remarkable ecological spectacle. Its crystal-clear waters shift in color with changing light, harmoniously reflecting the surrounding snow-capped mountains. As a National AAA-level tourist attraction, Bangong Lake stands as a landmark on the Greater Ngari Circuit, celebrated for its unique borderland ambiance, rich biodiversity, and stunning plateau scenery.
