Lhanag-tso is an open-access natural landscape, free to visit 24/7 with no reservation required. Located in Hor Township, Burang County, Ngari Prefecture, Tibet, adjacent to Lake Manasarovar, it is recommended to drive or charter a vehicle via National Highway G219. Due to the altitude of approximately 4,573 meters, take precautions against altitude sickness—avoid strenuous activity and prepare oxygen, cold-weather gear, and sun protection. As the lakeshore terrain is complex and the water is undrinkable, do not attempt to wade into or drink from the lake. Refrain from littering and actively protect the fragile plateau ecosystem. Signal coverage is limited in some areas, so download offline maps in advance and try to avoid windy conditions when planning your visit.

Lhanag-tso (Rakshas Tal) is located in the northeastern part of Burang County, Ngari Prefecture, Tibet, at an altitude of approximately 4,574 meters. It is separated only by a road from the holy Lake Manasarovar. In Tibetan, its name means "poisonous black lake." As a slightly saline lake, its water is undrinkable for both humans and livestock. The lake’s shores are sparsely vegetated and often exhibit waves even on windless days, earning it the name "Ghost Lake" in stark contrast to the lively vitality of the holy lake beside it. The lake’s surface displays a deep azure hue, surrounded by dark-red mountains and pebble beaches. On clear days, the reflection of the snow-capped Mount Naimona'nyi can be seen in the distance, creating a scene that is both magnificent and mystical. Historically, it was once part of the same body of water as Lake Manasarovar before geological shifts separated them, though folklore still speaks of an underwater passage connecting the two. Today, it is not only a nationally protected wetland area but also a unique destination where natural wonders and cultural legends converge.
